Following through with Chiropractic care

Hello and thanks for reading my Blog.  My name is Greg Beasley and I have been a Chiropractor for 19 years, 12 of those as a chiropractor in Everett.  One question I hear daily is, “how can I get better faster?”  This is usually in regard to an injury.  Soft tissue injuries, weather it is neck pain or back pain from a ligament sprain or a herniated disc will take time to heal.  So when I hear that question I have many answers; do your stretches, use ice not heat, avoid bed rest, drink lots of water and follow through with care.

When it comes to back injuries some of them heal like broken bones.  If you break your arm you will end up in a cast.  Most likely your pain will be gone in a couple days, but the cast stays on for six to eight weeks. Why?  To promote an environment for healing.  Chiropractic care is similar.  I can help your severe pain go away usually within a few adjustments.  But the injury will take at least 4 to 6 weeks to heal.  Weekly I will see patients have a great deal of pain relief with just a couple adjustments and then stop care her and at home.  This patient will usually be back in the office in worse shape than their initial visit.  The reason is because the injured area had not yet healed.  As with the broken bone the pain went away, but the healing was not complete.

Chiropractic care promotes and environment for healing.  If you have had a recent whiplash or disc herniation, or if you have neck pain, or low back pain please give us a call to see if chiropractic care is right for you.

Chiropractor in Everett Treating whiplash

Whiplash and low back pain are the two main items I blog about.  Why?  They are prevalent and often times treated late and poorly.  I have been a chiropractic for 19 years, 12 of those in Everett and had the opportunity to take care of thousands of patients that have been involved in a car accident.  Here are some simple facts:

1.  Most people wait too long before seeking out care for the neck pain they have from the whiplash.  “I thought the pain would go away.”  Is one of the most common phrases I hear.  The truth is the sooner you start care the sooner your pain will go away.  Also, the sooner you begin care the less neck range of motion you will loose.

2.  Many people are afraid to exercise after a whiplash.  This is usually because they feel that if they rest the pain will go away.  Opposite of this, if you rest you will loose muscle tone and again range of motion.  If you do not want to loose what you have, start or continue some form of exercise soon after the whiplash.

3.  Most patients will use heat on the neck.  This is bad, very bad.  You have just had your neck whipped around and the muscle, tendons and ligaments are inflamed and swollen.  Putting heat on the area of pain is like throwing gas on a fire!  Your pain will decrease short term, but the inflammation will increase and you will cause more tissue damage and again loose range of motion.

This is just a small amount of information in regard to whiplash type accidents.  If you have neck pain, upper back pain, low back pain or headaches that you can contribute to a whiplash type accident (or other life events) it would be my pleasure to sit and chat with you about chiropractic care and my 19 years experience can do for you.

Chiropractic and MRI’s

After being a Chiropractor of 19 years, 12 of those here in Everett wa, I have been asked about MRI’s a lot.  Why would a chiropractor use an MRI?  An MRI is a diagnostic image of the soft tissue (muscle, disc, nerves, ligaments) and bones of the body.  Being a Chiropractor and treating back pain on a daily basis I see patients with disc injuries daily. An MRI is our best tool to see if and how bad the disc may be injured. X-rays and CT scans do not visualize the disc, only an MRI can.  I personally use MRI’s on patients who have all the signs and symptoms of a herniated disc in the spine so I can determine the right type of care for them and the right referral if necessary.  I also use MRI’s if a patient is not progressing the way I think they should or if the patient has abnormal symptoms.  Also there are times I will use an MRI on a patient who has shoulder or knee pain.  This is usually done after an X-ray and only because I am going to send that patient to see an orthopedic surgeon.  It is best to see the surgeon if you have all the right information.

This is a basic introduction to why a Chiropractor would use an MRI.  If you have neck pain, back pain, headaches, shoulder pain or have been in a whiplash type injury and have any questions regarding chiropractic care or the reasons for an MRI, please contact us.

Everett Chiropractor back pain and Energy?

Want to feel a lot better?  Have some back pain that you want to get rid of?  Want to have more energy?  Well all of these can go together.  If you are like a lot of people you are losing the battle of “feeling good”.  There are so many products on the market today that promote energy, well being, alertness and overall exhilaration!  Although for most of these products you will feel better for a short time and then you lose more than you gained in regard to energy.

It may sound foreign but it is not what you put in your mouth that will give you energy, it is what you leave out of your mouth.  Below is a simple link on Coffee.  I know, you are saying “Coffee, I can’t give up coffee.”

Well take a look at this small article and then do some research for your self.  Then give yourself two weeks without coffee and see how you feel.  The first few days will suck, headaches, tiredness, fatigue, poor sleep (sounds like fun, huh?) But the second will be totally different.

As for the back pain and coffee.  Well when you are tired (which is what coffee really makes you) you are less likely to move and will have more back pain. Also coffee effects many hormones in the body like insulin that have an indirect effect of pain.

Advanced Chiropractic is located Everett WA.  My name is Dr. Greg Beasley and I have over 19 years of treating low back and neck pain along with coaching patients in ways to stay healthy.  You only have one back and you do not want to loose it.

Chiropractic in Everett with Massage therapy

Many patients seek out chiropractic care for neck pain and back pain.  Adjustments to the spine can do wonders for general back pain along with pain from a whiplash type accident or work injury.  In my 19 years of being a chiropractor I have yet to see a patient with a spinal problem that did not also have a muscular condition also.

This is where massage therapy comes in.  I will see many patients that are difficult to adjust due to the extremely tight muscles that line the spine.   Or due to the tight muscles of the shoulders or the neck. It still amazes me how much more effective my adjustments can be if some patients have a massage before their chiropractic adjustment.

Massage also have a lot of other benefits that making my life easy.  Massage therapy will help muscles heal faster, increase range of motion of your spine or other joints and is great for decreasing muscle spasms.  Many athletes will use massage therapy to elongate their muscles and therefore perform at a higher level.  Along with this most people just feel a lot better and have a better quality of life with massage therapy.

If you happen to have some form of neck pain, low back pain, headaches or a recent whiplash contact us at Advanced Chiropractic in Everett Wa.  We have two great massage therapist and we will most likely be able to get you in for an appointment really soon.  425.353.7246

Chiropractor in Everett with article on Conservative care

Chiropractors have been treating neck pain and back pain for over a hundred years.  My name is Dr. Greg Beasley and I  personally have been treating neck and back pain since 1993 (I feel old typing that).  Here is a link to an article that demonstrates what we have known for years: Chiropractic adjustments are the best form of treatment for neck pain.  Better than medication and better than just a home plan.

Here is the link to the article: http://www.dynamicchiropractic.com/mpacms/dc/article.php?id=55715

In my office I see the best results with neck pain if the patient is going through a course of manipulation (Chiropractic adjustments) coupled with a home exercise and stretching program.  If you have any questions about your neck pain please give Advanced Chiropractic in Everett a call and we will set you up an appointment today. 425/353/7

Chiropractor in Everett recommends free pain relief

Catchy tag line, huh?  Well there is a way to decrease pain for free and most people like free.  If you have a recent strain or sprain, pulled muscle, whiplash, acute neck pain, upper back pain or low back pain there is a way to decrease the pain you are in without cost.

New injuries, or acute injuries, will be inflamed and therefore hot.  There will be swelling due to the injury and the chemicals that come into the injured area.  If you look at the area it will most likely be a little red and if you touch the skin it will be hot and clammy.  Most of the patients I have treated in my 19 years of practice will put heat on the injury.  This will only bring in more blood, therefore increasing inflammation and also increasing pain.  This will also cause more tissue destruction and you will heal slower.

So what is the answer?  Ice.  Simple and free.  The best thing to remember is RICE.  No, not a rice bag, RICE stands for Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation.  Take an ice pack and put it on the injured area but make sure you have something between you and the ice pack or you will burn your skin (I just did this to my foot).  Ice for 10 minutes.  Then compress the area.  If it is your back that is in pain, sit with the ice pack between you and a chair.  Rest only for the time you are using the ice.  Rest also means not stressing the injured area. Rest does NOT mean sitting and doing nothing all day! Elevation really only concerns the extremities, but in regard to the back DO NOT lay down and ice.

While you are on the ice you will experience increased pain, freezing, burning and then numb.  Sounds like fun!? Remember do not put the ice direclty on the skin.

This may seem simple, but at my chiropractic clinic in Everett I still get a couple patients a week who have used heat on a new injury and they are getting worse.  These patients are always amazed when I have them sit with ice on their painful area and they feel better in ten minutes.

Your next step for long term pain control and ultimate healing may be chiropractic care.  If you have a recent injury please give us a call at Advanced Chiropractic, Everett Wa, 425/353/7246

Have a whiplash in Everett?

Everett streets are a very busy place.  Personally out of our front window at Advacned Chiropractic in Everett Wa, I see frequent car accidents.  Here is some helpful tips if you have been in a car accident.

1. Call the police.  Might seem like a no brainer, but many people do not do this.  If you were rear ended, you want a police report.  Even if there is minimal damage.

2. Take a picture with your phone of your car AND THE OTHER CAR.  If you were rear ended and have whiplash you will probably have a lot less damage to your car than the other car, but you will have a lot more neck and back pain than the person that hit you.  Also take a pictue of the area you are in.

3.  If you feel you were injured and may have whiplash, see a Chiropractor very soon after the accident.  The longer you wait the longer it will take to get better.

4. If you are not literally broken or have a severe disc injury (you will know this after you visit a doctor, chiropractor included here) keep up with your normal activites of daily living and that included some form of exercise.

This is a very short list of hints.  If you feel you may have been injured in a rear end whiplash type injury here are some symptoms you may have.  Headaches, neck pain, upper back pain, low back pain and shoulder pain.  It would be an honor to look after you after your accidnet.  Give us a call today at 425.353.7246

Tips for headaches from your Chiropractor in Everett

Headaches tips from your Chiropractor inEverett

Headaches affect millions of people in theUnited   States.  It is one of the most common reasons people miss work each day.  Here are a few simple things you can do to get rid of or avoid a headache.

  1. Drink water.  May sound simple but drinking a full      glass of water can be as good as taking a couple Advil’s for that headache.
  2. Slow      down on the coffee.  Excess coffee      can create a headache.  And if you      drink coffee, do it consistently.       If you drink it five days in a row and then skip one day you will      probably get a headache.
  3. Avoid      sitting at the computer for over 20 minutes at a time.  This will affect both the neck and the      eyes, each of which can give you a headache.  Every 20 minutes get up and move for a      minute and get a drink of water.
  4. Consistent      sleep. This is a big one, if you are use to sleeping 8 hours and then      start to fluctuate between 6 and 9 hours your sleep patterns will be      disrupted and you will be more likely to get a headache.  Try to go to bed and wake up around the      same time each day.
  5. Home      stretching.  This is huge also, we      all sit at the computer too much and the neck muscles will tighten      up.  Chiropractors are a great      resource for education in stretching.       Two or three stretches for the neck can prevent or get rid of a      headache.

If you have any other questions about headaches and what chiropractic can do for them please give us a call at 425/353/7246.  Advanced Chiropractic,EverettWa.
