If you came to this blog you most likely searched for low back pain or sciatica.  If you have this, I feel your pain.  I became a chiropractor due to a low back injury and sciatica and chiropractic care helped me.

Most low back pain and sciatica is due to lumbar disc herniation and joint problems in the lumbar spine.  The lumbar spine is the low back.  The disc are the cushions that separate the vertebra of the lumbar spine.  The disc are made up of two parts, an outside cartilage and an inside jelly, think of a jelly doughnut!  With wear and tear of life, and that wear and tear can be physical injury or prolonged sitting, the disc will wear down and the jelly will pop out. This jelly can then compress the sciatic nerve and cause leg pain.  Or the tearing of the disc and leaking of the jelly can cause low back pain only, if there is not major nerve impingement.

Unfortunately the change in the biomechanics of the disc and spine at this point will also cause problems with the joints of the spine and now you will have disc pain and joint pain. To make things worse, most people develop muscle pain as well due to poor body mechanics from the pain.  The good news is that chiropractic care can help all of this,  the joints, disc and muscles.

This is done with a good home stretching program and education on lifting, sitting, how to use ice and a home exercise program.  Also chiropractic adjustments will help alleviate the joint pain and help the disc heal. Along with this my office has three types of traction including lumbar decompression that can greatly help the disc to heal by increasing nutrients to the area and relieving pressure.

This is a short description of low back pain and sciatica and the treatments with chiropractic care.  If you, or someone you know is suffering from this condition, please give Advanced Chiropractic a call to make an appointment soon.  The longer people wait with this type pain the longer it takes to recover from the pain.
