Hello and thanks for coming to my blog.  I am a chiropractor in Everett wa.  I have been in practice since 1993 and have had the opportunity to treat thousands of people with low back.  I have a special interest in low back pain due to my own injuries to my low back when I was a child.  Low back pain is what originally directed me toward chiropractic care.

There are many treatments for low back pain; physical therapy, over the counter drugs, narcotic drugs, surgery, injections, home therapy, massage and chiropractic to name a few.  There is nothing simple about taking care of low back pain.  What I have seen work and what has been the case of many medical research studies is active treatment for low back pain.

If you have acute (new onset) low back pain or if you have chronic low back pain both can be helped by some simple activities.  One is walking.  "It hurts to much to walk."  I hear this daily.  If it hurts to walk, walk until you can tolerate the pain.  Don't overdue it.  Another is simple stretching, such as laying on your back and pulling your knees to your chest.  A third is ice.  Sitting down with an ice pack close to the area of pain for about 10 minutes at a time.  (Make sure there is something between your skin and the ice.)  And a forth is avoid heat and rest.  These are two recommendations that are very outdated and can increase your pain and recovery time.

Heat will increase the inflammation to the area and cause more tissue damage.  Rest will cause atrophy of the muscles and tightening of the joints of the area.  The only time to use heat is on a chronic problem and use the heat for a short time to help the area loosen up so you can do your stretches. The only time rest is warranted is if you are in just too much pain to move!

Low back pain can have many causes, from disc injury or muscle strain to a complicated problem such a cancer.  So if you have low back pain that is not going away and need some advice consult a doctor to see what is the best treatment for you.

At Advanced Chiropractic in Everett Wa I have been treating low back pain since 2000 and again have been in practice since 1993.  It would be a privilege to sit and speak with you in regard to your low back pain to see if I can help you.
